Roasted pears in an aromatic spice-infused apple cider make a simple, warming, healthful food as medicine dish, great for dessert and breakfast.

  • 2 pears - firm
  • ¾ cup apple cider
  • 8 cloves - whole
  • 3 allspice berries- whole
  • 4 cardamom pods - whole

Added Spice Ideas

  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 blades mace
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 tsp ginger - finely chop
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds

Method

 

Spiced Cider Roasted Pears

 

PREHEAT OVEN TO 400 F | 200 C.

 

CUT pears in half lengthwise down the middle.

 

USING a spoon, melon baller or small knife – scoop out the centre seeds.

 

PLACE pears into a baking dish, cut side down and add apple cider + spices.  

 

ROAST 20-30 mins until pears are fork tender.

 

SERVE poached pears in a bowl drizzled with infused cider sauce.

SWAP Pears for Apples – cooking time will vary.

 

ADD dried fruit like dates or raisins, or prunes if you want to add a little sweetness without adding sugar.
