Smokey Tahini Sauce

A lovely smoky, creamy and light dressing that is a delicious “sauce” of healthy fats and warming spices ~ drizzle liberally over roasted vegetables, salads, chickpea pancakes, tacos, falafels or use as a dip with crudite and crackers.

 

TAHINI brings the creamy to a dressing is a great alternative to using dairy, egg or oil products like sour cream, cream, mayonnaise and aioli. Tahini has a rich, full, nutty, creamy flavour. Tahini is a thick runny paste made from ground unhulled sesame seeds, a classic ingredient in Middle Eastern and eastern Mediterranean dishes.  

 

Sesame seeds are little nutrient powerhouses full of lignans that help balance hormones and protect our cells from oxidative stress. Sesame seeds are nutrient-dense, have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant properties, are low in carbs and contain good fats that can help regulate blood sugar and cholesterol.

  • ¼ cup tahini
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt + pepper - optional
  • 1 garlic clove - crushed - opt

Method

Smokey Tahini Sauce

 

SHAKE blend, whisk or stir all ingredients together to form a creamy sauce. I usually do this in a glass jar.

 

TASTE adjust seasoning; if a little thick, add 1 tsp water at a time mixing to your desired consistency.

 

Serving Ideas
drizzled over salads or as a dipping sauce, spread or condiment.

STORE In the fridge in a glass jar.  

Tips + Suggestions

SALT-FREE DIET – skip the salt and use just black pepper.

 

DOUBLE or even triple the recipe it keeps well in the fridge for at least a week.

 

SWAP ACV vinegar with lemon juice, white wine, white balsamic.

 

ADD FRESH or DRIED herbs like chives, parsley, cilantro, oregano.  SPICES like chilli, cayenne, turmeric, cumin.

 

TAHINI brings the creamy use this sauce instead of dairy bases like butter, yoghurt, cream and oil bases like mayonnaise and aioli

 

Low FODMAP omit the garlic and use no more than 2 tbsp per meal.
