  • 3 -4 cups vodka | gin- organic
  • 1 cup raw honey
  • 1 cup elderflowers - destemmed
  • 1 ½ cups rosa rugosa petals
  • 1 cup calendula petals

Method

Elderflower Calendula and Rosa Rugosa Elixir

 

MASON JAR 1 quart | 32 oz | 4 cups – clean + dry – you will need 2.

 

DESTEM your flowers.  

 

ADD 3 cups vodka + 1 cup raw honey to 1 mason jar.  Lid on & shake until honey is dissolved.

 

PACK FLOWERS into the other mason jar until ¾ full.  POUR over vodka honey mixture.  Mix & press & submerge, until the flowers a saturated and submerged just under the liquid.  Top off the jar with a little more vodka to brimming, drop the lid on and tighten. 

 

GENTLY turn the jar a few times to be sure everything is well mixed.  

 

LABEL YOUR JAR: date, plant names + ingredients + alcohol %  40% – 50% (80-90 proof vodka). – this is a crucial step! 

 

INFUSE for 4-8 weeks. I infuse my elixirs 2 lunar cycles out of direct sunlight – shake occasional to energize the infusion process.  The gorgeous colours will drain out of the flowers into the elixir.

 

STRAIN through a sieve.  Discard the flowers and bottle the elixir in a clean glass bottle, label. Store in a cupboard.

 

USE as an elixir spritzer or the base for a botanical cocktail or in your herbal medicinal routine.

Tips + Suggestions

FORAGING – know your plant ID & choose fresh, fragrant flowers, not in a high pollution area.

 

LEAVE ⅓  of the flowers for the pollinators.

 

SWAP honey for maple syrup if you prefer, the flavour + energetics will change.
